Why Won’t AirPods Max Charge?

AirPods Max Not Charging

There are a few reasons why your AirPods Max might not be charging. It could be a problem with the headphones, the charging case, or the cables.

Generally, AirPods Max won’t charge with a fast charger, so if you’re using an Android fast charging adapter to charge, then stop using it.

Use an Apple 20W power adapter to charge your AirPods Max headphone.

How To Fix Apple AirPods Max Not Charging?

Let’s troubleshoot the AirPods Max charging issues step by step.

#1- Charge in charging case

Apple provides a case with AirPods Max, and it helps in saving battery life and charging your headphone.

If you’ve just plugged in the charging connector outside the case, it won’t charge your AirPods Max.

First, place your AirPods Max in the case, close the upper cover, and then connect the charging connector. Your AirPods Max will start charging.

#2- Restart your AirPods Max

Restart AirPods Max

If that doesn’t work, try restarting your AirPods Max. A force restart will fix the minor software glitches, and your AirPods Max will start charging again.

To force restart your AirPods Max, press and hold the Digital Crown and Noise Control buttons for 10 seconds

Immediately release both the buttons when the led light flashes- Amber. Otherwise, it will reset and go into pairing mode.

#3- Clean the Charging Port

AirPods Max Charging Port

A clogged charging port is one of the most common reasons for charging issues.

If there’s any dirt or lint stuck in the charging port of your AirPods Max, it won’t charge.

To clean the charging port, take a toothpick and carefully remove any dirt or lint from the port. Ensure that you won’t damage your lightning port.

You can also use a can of compressed air to clean the charging port but do not increase the pressure too much.

#4- Inspect lightning connector

Faulty Lightning Cable

Check the lightning connector for any physical damage if the charging port and the cables are clean. If the connector is bent or broken, it needs to be replaced.

Also, inspect the cable for any kinks or breaks. If the cable is damaged, you’ll need to get a new one from Apple.

#5- Replace the charging cable

As I told you above, you need to replace your charging cable if any sign of damage is there.

You can use your old iPhone lightning cable for charging Apple’s AirPods Max.

#6- Change your power adapter

If you’re using a third-party power adapter, try replacing it with Apple’s 20W power adapter that Apple sells.

Also, use the original USB to Lightning cable to charge your Apple AirPods Max.

#7- Change power outlet

Ensure you’re using a wall outlet and not a USB port on your computer, as they can’t provide enough power to charge your AirPods Max.

The charging issue could be a faulty wall outlet if you’re still facing the charging issue.

Change your power outlet and plug your adapter into a different wall outlet. The problem is with the outlet, not your headphones if it charges.

#8- Update AirPods Max firmware

Make sure that your AirPods Max is running the latest firmware. Apple regularly rolls out updates for their devices to improve performance and bug fixes.

To check the firmware version, go to Settings -> General -> About -> AirPods Max, and here you’ll see the current firmware version.

These are the eight troubleshooting steps you can follow to fix the charging issue of your AirPods Max. I hope one of these steps will work for you.

  1. This is incorrect: “Can AirPods Max be used while charging?”

Yes you can use them while charging. They provide both playback and charge at the same time. Where did you get this info? The Sony version and Boss versions both require them to power off to be charged. Airpods Max work without interruption. I’ve confirmed this with Apple engineers as being a feature specific to the Max’s.
