We will examine why the Boom 3 speaker is not charging and how to fix that. If your Boom portable speaker is not holding charge or facing problems in charging, read this guide till the end.
So, why do Boom portable speakers don’t charge? There could be several reasons why your Boom speaker is not charging. It includes a faulty power adapter, a broken charging cable, a faulty micro USB port, minor software glitches, outdated firmware, and a defective battery.
How To Fix Boom 3 Speaker Not Charging?
I recently fixed my friend’s Boom 3 portable speaker that was not charging. In this guide, I will explain various methods to troubleshoot the charging problem on portable Bluetooth speakers.
1. Try A New Power Source
The power source is the main culprit in most of the cases. So, I would advise you first to try another power source, like a power bank or laptop USB hub, to charge your Boom 3 speaker.
If your Boom 3 speaker doesn’t charge with the new power source, it means the problem lies somewhere else, and we’ll troubleshoot that later in this guide. If it charges with a laptop/computer USB hub, it means your power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
You can buy a GaN charging adapter from Amazon that adjust the current output according to device needs.
2. Try Another Charging Cable
I hate the micro USB cable that comes in the box. The build quality is very poor, and it doesn’t last long. If your charging cable looks frayed or damaged, please buy a replacement cable from Amazon.

3. Reset Your Speaker
Ultimate Ear (UE) Boom 3 portable speaker faces charging problems due to wrong settings or minor software glitches. The issue can be resolved by resetting your speaker. If your UE Boom 3 or Megaboom speakers are not charging, please follow these steps to factory reset.
Steps to reset UE Boom 3 or Megaboom 3 speakers:
- Disconnect the charger from your speaker.
- Press and hold Power and Volume Down buttons for 8 to 10 seconds (until you hear a sound).
- Wait for a few seconds to power on your speaker.
That’s it; your Boom 3 portable speaker has been reset. All minor software glitches have been resolved. Now, connect the charger and see if it’s charging.
4. Update firmware
Sometimes outdated and buggy firmware creates problems in charging. UE releases regular firmware updates to patch existing bugs. If you haven’t updated your Boom 3 firmware, please update that.
Please follow these steps to update your firmware-
- Download UE Boom Apps on your smartphone.
- Pair the Boom speaker with your smartphone.
- Go to UE Boom Apps and check for firmware updates.
- Install the available firmware on your device.
5. Replace Battery
UE Boom 3 has a rechargeable Li-ion battery that gives a decent backup. But, over time, the Li-ion battery loses its power-holding capacity.
If your Boom 3 speaker is not holding charge or power on, it could be due to a faulty battery. However, you can easily replace the battery yourself.

6. Replace the Charging Port
Boom 3 portable speaker comes with a micro USB port that I hate on any device. It often gets damaged if you don’t pay attention while connecting the charger.
So, visually inspect your charging port and replace it if the micro USB port is damaged. If you’re unaware of the circuit board repair, please take professional help.
If you follow the above steps, your speaker will start charging. However, if your speaker is under warranty, please contact the Ultimate Ears customer support team to claim the warranty. I hope you found this article helpful. Please let me know in the comment box.
