But, I’ve mentioned a few common reasons why your iPhone XR is not charging or charging too slowly.
- You are not using original (MFI-certified) accessories.
- Your Lightning cable is damaged.
- Your power adapter is damaged.
- Your iOS is not updated to the latest version.
- Your Lightning connector is dirty or damaged.

Follow these step-by-step processes to fix the iPhone XR not charging issue-
Step 1: Check Lightning Cable
Regular cable use leads to wear and tear, and mishandling can damage it. Hence, it became the most vulnerable part because your iPhone won’t charge or charge too slowly.
People mostly buy third-party cable because they’re cheap. If you’re also using a third-party lightning cable to charge your iPhone XR, stop using it.

The second most vulnerable part is your power adapter because we generally leave it plugged in.
Also, it’s possible that your adapter USB port is damaged because of frequent plug-unplug action.
Check your family member’s iPhone or other devices to ensure that your power adapter works great.
If you found it faulty, immediately buy a new power adapter for your iPhone.
Step 3: Clean Your Charging Port
Due to regular use of the iPhone, sometimes dirt or debris accumulates in the charging port. The debris prevents the current flow, due to which iPhone won’t charge.
Visually inspect your charging port and clean if any debris is found. You can use a toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol solution to clean the lightning port.
Step 4: Change Your Charging Source
If you charge your iPhone with your MacBook or Laptop, then change the charging source. Generally, the wall adapter’s power output is high and charges fast.
Also, change your power socket because sometimes it is faulty and we don’t realize it.
Step 5: Update Your iOS
Buggy software can also prevent charging or make the charging process too slow. Although it’s rare, Apple fixes the issue with the new software updates.

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

- Place your iPhone XR in a dry and open area (where airflow is present) for 2 hours.
- Now plug the lightning connector and see if it’s charging or not.

iPhone XR comes with wireless charging functionality. If your iPhone XR is not charging wirelessly, then remove the case.
Your iPhone case might be the real culprit due to which your phone is not charging wirelessly.
iPhone XR Not Charging in Car: How To Fix?
All new car models come with a wireless charging pad. If your iPhone XR is not charging in the car, it could be due to your plastic case.
Remove the iPhone case and then place it at the center of your car’s wireless charging pad.
If your iPhone XR not charging in the car wirelessly, then plug the cable to charge it.
If nothing works, check other iPhones to confirm if your car charger is not faulty.
iPhone XR Not Charging But Turns ON When Plugged In
If your iPhone XR not charging but turns on when plugged in, then leave it plugged in for a few minutes.
It’s possible that your iPhone battery is completely drained or battery health is dead.
Wait for 30 minutes and see if your iPhone is turned on and charging or not. If not, take it to the Apple Care center and get your battery replaced.
